If the project you are working on is at risk from vandalism or tampering, then it’s necessary to make it tamper proof. One common measure is to use security screws, also known as tamper proof screws, as a deterrent.

Although tamper proof screws can be removed with the right tools, fewer people own the tools, so tamper proof screws can deter opportunist thieves and vandals. There are several types of security screw heads available, offering variations on standard slot, Phillips, and pozidriv heads.

Pin Torx screw heads

Pin torx screw heads can only be turned with a special tool. They have a star-shaped, 6-lobe recess, but the pin prevents removal with a standard Torx tool.

Pin Hex screw heads

Pin hex screws heads are similar to pin torx screw heads, but require different tools again. Also known as security allen screws, pin hex screws cannot be removed with an ordinary allen key because of the protruding pin in the centre of the screw head.

Snake eye screw heads

Snake eye screws, also known as pig nose screws, can only be unscrewed with a special 2-pin driver. Their visually appealing design makes them a prefered choice for some designers and architects. Suitable for low-torque applications.

Oval pan screw head

Oval pan head screws have the appearance of a round stud or rivet rather than a screw. They deter attempts at vandalism because it would seem that they cannot be removed without causing significant damage.

Clutch head screws

Clutch head screws, also known as one-way screws, are designed so that they cannot be unscrewed. They can be installed with a standard slotted screwdriver, but cannot be removed without significant effort to distort the screw.

Tri head screws

Tri head screws are often used on street furniture such as lampposts or bins. Due to the lack of availability of tools to turn these screws, they deter tampering.
